From Layoff to Legacy: Building Quinn’s Quest and Website 2.0

In This Article, You’ll Learn
  • How Quinn’s Quest evolved from a passion project for my son into a living case study in AI orchestration and modular design.
  • Why I rebuilt my entire website from scratch — and how I transformed it into an enterprise-grade, mobile-responsive platform.
  • The notation and modularization practices that keep my code as clean under the hood as it is on the surface.
  • How lessons stacked across projects — from a $200 Walmart laptop overhaul to teaching Claude to “draw” with CSS — shaped my AI Coordination Methodology.
  • The professional identity I discovered in the process: resilience, high standards, and the ability to create solutions from nothing.
I've been laid off once before, so when this recent layoff happened, I thought I knew how the story would go. A few months of rest, some time focusing on hobbies and then a job search when the money started to run out, to get back to the status quo

But this time was different. My bank account was draining quickly, my family depended on me, and I couldn’t afford costly certifications or bootcamps. The clock was ticking. It still is.

I'm good at standardized tests and aced the free certifications I picked up, but without any capital and my bank quickly diminishing, I couldn't afford to pay for bigger, better certifications or courses. Instead of buying a way forward, I decided to build one.

Building My Own Bootcamp
I created what I now call my AI-powered bootcamp.

  • Completed free certifications wherever I could find them.
  • Published articles documenting my methodology (AI Coordination Methodology, From Layoff to Liftoff, Claude Remembers, AI Support Revolution).
  • Designed projects large enough to challenge me and prove I could deliver enterprise-grade work without a coding background.
That is how Quinn’s Quest and kylemohney.com v2 were born.

Quinn’s Quest: A Legacy Project and Case Study
Quinn’s Quest started as both a challenge and a gift. With my son’s birthday approaching, I wanted to give him something unique — a game where he was the hero, with his own voice preserved at age four.

The result was a complete storybook adventure game:
  • Six levels with multiple bosses.
  • A narrative arc where Quinn rescues his baby sister from bandits and zombies.
  • Custom sprites, sounds, and animations.
  • Family voices integrated throughout.
I managed the project like a professional dev team:
  • ChatGPT handled assets and sprites.
  • Claude specialized in bug hunting.
  • Grok provided modular, efficient code.
  • Copilot offered support and refinements.
  • My role: architect, project manager, and QA lead.
I learned to catch syntax errors, restructure functions, and systematically test every build. Kids who play-tested Quinn’s Quest were so engaged they asked to play again and again — even while a giant water-bounce castle was available right behind them.

Quinn’s Quest demonstrated my ability to orchestrate AI resources, manage quality assurance, and deliver a polished product under pressure.

Website 2.0: From Patchwork to Enterprise-Grade
The first version of my website was built in 48 hours. It worked, but it was patchwork. Headers didn’t match, fonts were inconsistent, and each page looked like a separate site.

Instead of patching, I rebuilt it from the ground up.

kylemohney.com v2 is a modular, enterprise-grade, mobile-responsive platform:
  • Universal headers, footers, and stylesheets ensure consistency.
  • Custom icon libraries and unique assets differentiate the design.
  • The resume page demonstrates knowledge management: carousels, expandable sections, and downloadable two-page role-specific PDFs.
  • The contact page is a polished experience in its own right.
This rebuild is not vibe coding. Every line is notated, every function documented, and every component modular. The CSS alone could stand as an industry case study in clarity and maintainability.

The site itself is the project — a living example of AI orchestration and project management applied at scale.

Lessons Learned
  • Backup every win. Preserve hard-earned progress.
  • Root cause everything. Never chase symptoms without identifying the source.
  • Notation is essential. Documentation ensures long-term maintainability.
  • Consistency is non-negotiable. Professional presentation requires discipline at every level.

The AI Coordination Methodology
Not all AI tools are created equal. Like any toolbox, each has its specialty.

  • Define the task.
  • Select the right AI for the role.
  • Assign responsibilities.
  • Manage, QA, and integrate outputs.
This disciplined orchestration is what I call my AI Coordination Methodology. It ensures not just results, but results that scale.

Professional Identity and Resilience
These projects revealed more than technical capability. They revealed identity.

  • I hold myself to high standards and refuse to ship work that I am not proud of.
  • I create solutions from nothing, even without prior resources or expertise.
  • I learn rapidly by asking questions and pushing for understanding.
  • I do not settle at “I don’t know.”
Since my layoff, I have worked twelve- to fourteen-hour days, seven days a week, building skills and projects that prove value beyond a resume. This is resilience, not complacency.

Recruiter Takeaway
Quinn’s Quest shows creativity, modular engineering, and QA discipline. Website 2.0 shows branding, scalability, and knowledge management. Both projects demonstrate AI orchestration, project leadership, and enterprise delivery.

I am actively seeking full-time or consulting opportunities in AI operations, knowledge management, and project leadership.

Closing
From layoff to legacy. From patchwork to enterprise. From survival mode to professional reinvention.

This is what AI coordination and disciplined project management can achieve.

And this is just the beginning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: You’re not a coder or web designer — how did you manage this?

A: By applying my AI Coordination Methodology. I don’t just “ask AI for code.” I assign roles, enforce notation, QA every push, and integrate outputs into modular, maintainable systems.

Q: Isn’t this just “vibe coding”?

A: No. Every line is intentional. My CSS is fully documented, broken into sections with a table of contents and changelog. It can be picked up by anyone and understood immediately — that’s not vibe coding, that’s professional orchestration.

Q: Why rebuild instead of patching the old site?

A: Efficiency. After fighting header, font, and branding inconsistencies, I realized patching would waste more time than a ground-up rebuild. The modular approach now saves time on every future edit.

Q: What does this prove to recruiters or employers?

A: It proves that I can create enterprise-grade solutions from zero resources. Even without a coding background, I can direct AI into producing systems that are scalable, maintainable, and professional.

Q: What’s next?

A: Continuing to refine mobile scaling, building more automation, and leveraging these skills into AI operations, technical project management, knowledge management, and education/training opportunities.
